Install Cyanogenmod CM 12.1 custom rom On sprint Lg g3 Ls990

Though Sprint Lg g3 LS990 is not officially supported by cyanogenmod  you can still install latest version of Cm On your device.Lg g3 is one of the first smart phone to sport a quad hd display and is powered by a quad core snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5ghz and is backed with 3gb of ram with 32gb internal storage and runs on android 4.4 kitkat. Primary camera on this device is a 13mp sensor while secondary camera is 2.1mp.

This custom rom which we are going to flash on lg g3 is specific to device with model number LS990 which is  sprint carrier variant.So if you don't have it just be away from this as flashing this on other model number might be a disaster for you.To check your device model number go to settings and then to about device.You will find your device model number and confirm it as LS990.

Why to go for a custom rom on Sprint lg G3?

  • Less bloatware: Usually Carrier variants comes with lot of bloatware and unwanted stuff.This might hinder performance a bit which might result in laggyness.Custom roms will have less bloatware or no bloatware at all as a result of which you will notice its performance is much better than on stock rom.
  • Better performance: Though performance can be increased by controlling cpu and Gpu  with root apps you might not achieve what you want.There is better scope for performance on custom roms as developers implements different mods to make it perfect.
  • Battery life: Battery life is always opposite to performance.Greater the performance least the battery life  you get.In order to get a balance one between them you have to go for custom roms. 
  • Better customization: Most of the apps with root access will work better on custom roms than on stock roms.For instance take xposed installer.It offers lot of modules for customization but will work perfectly on custom roms than on stock one.
Prerequisites:
  • Charge your Lg g3 LS990 to at least 80% so that you don't run into any problems while flashing this rom.
  • Backup all your apps and data on your device to external sdcard or computer as flashing Cyanogenmod rom will erase all the app data on your device including contacts.
  • Enable usb debugging on your Lg g3 LS990.Of course you don't need to do this for sure but enable it.
  • Download Cyanogenmod custom rom and gapps if you need them.
  • Backup Efs and modem partitions of your Lg g3..
  • You must have a custom recovery like Twrp or CWM installed on your phone.

Cyanogenmod rom :
Cyanogenmod is one of the best custom roms available in android development ecosystem.They support lot of devices.This rom is based on android open source project with lot of added features.IT uses android 5.1.1 lollipop as base for now and will be updated to later versions of android when available.Though sprint lg g3 is not officially supported yet but have it for us thanks to developer clark44 on xda.
Features:
  • Theme engine: Theme engine is from the cyanogenmod custom rom which basically changes the look user interface from lock screen  to ring tones all the way up to boot animations.The speciality of the theme engine is the ability to choose individual elements of every theme you have installed.So you like the ring tons and wallpapers of one theme and icons of other theme then you can have them at a time.Just open the theme chooser and you will understand how to do it.
  • Performance control:A default cpu manager app to control frequencies and governors.You can adjust cpu frequencies and also set them on boot too.

  • Trebuchet: This is the default launcher that ships with cyanogenmod rom.But if you flash gapps then you might loose this.It doesn't have too many features like nova or other launchers but its simple and fast.
  • Software Updates: Cyanogenmod rom is usually available in three types one s nightlies which gets updated with new features every night and are quite stable for daily usage.second one is the snapchat which is monthly build version which will be stable version and other one is the release candidate.Some times nightlies are considered must stable than the snapshots. As of now we have android lollipop 5.1.1  in form on CM 12.1. 
  • Status bar Tweaks:Status bar has lot of tweaks which include a brightness slider.Slide in status bar to adjust brightness of the screen.Double tap on status bar to sleep device and also network speed indicator for on going traffic info.
Flash using Twrp Recovery:
  1. Download Cyanogenmod for sprint Lg g3 LS990  and gapps transfer it to sdcard or internal storage of device.
  2. Power of the device completely wait for few seconds to confirm that it is completely off.
  3. Press volume up ,volume down and power button simultaneously and once you see boot loader screen release buttons.
  4. Using volume down as a navigation button move to recovery and click on  power button to confirm action.
  5. Once you are in twrp recovery backup existing rom first.It might take 5 minutes or so .
  6. Wipe data,cache and dalvik cache.Wipe system partition too
  7. Flash rom and then gapps. If you need them.
  8. Reboot to system and wait for at least 20 minutes for initial boot.
Whats working and whats not?
Everything works fine on this unofficial build except for few issues with wireless charging and NFC.If you cant live without NFC then this might not be for you and they will be fixed for sure in near future.If you are trying this rom don't forget to submit bugs to developer which will further enhance this rom.
